  • I was thinking about the same. An iPad, a MIDI-interface, and a battery-powered EWI would be an awesome minimal setup.
  • I understand the problem. But I find the internal synth very responsive, even with a sensitivity setting that is not ideal. When the EWI is optimised for SM instruments, the internal synth seem still playable to me. But I'm not a good EWI player.
  • maybe it's the OS. Did you try with another computer (and same audio card)? And Kontakt4?
  • if you use the latest 2.5.2 version, it is probably advised to use the latest Kontakt 4 player. I am not exactly sure if it will run on Mac 10.6, maybe it must be updated to Lion. But if you don't want to update anything, earlier trumpet versio…
  • I never had problems with unexpected note off with the EWI4000s. But I'm an amateur player, I'm sure a good player will come closer to the limits. I mostly create simple trumpet/trombone/sax sections. They sound phantastic and real, much better than…
  • I think it is a limitation of the software.
  • this is normal, a real trumpet player cannot play a note forever. In the digital world, such a VSTi behavior is unusual, but as this one mimics a real-world instrument, it makes sense. You need to compose/play for a real instrument. Even for th…
  • the samples are stored as an nkx file. The location is defined during installation, by default it is at the libraries/Public Documents folder if you are on a Windows 7 machine. I prefer to store all nkx and samples on a physically separate hard driv…
  • yes, Kontakt does support multiple cores in standalone mode. I'm not so sure about sequencer software, but I think recent versions make use of at least 2 cores.
  • zenasium wrote: Actually, i play with a ASUS G71, An EWI USB, a EMU 0202 audio card. this rig should work very well with SM instruments. EMU drivers are said to be rather good, and the laptop has enough CPU power. Maybe it's just the buffer …
  • it seems there have been a couple of misunderstandings in this discussion. Anyway, it's good that you finally have found the answer to your question. Besides, there are a couple of threads here dealing with IR's, I'm sure you get it going in no…
  • me too, although it also implied recording situations. How many players are there in your section? I've never seen more than one Samplemodeling instrument on stage. Are you guys using wind controllers or keyboards, or a combination?
  • a mono mix doesn't have to be muddy. Playing every voice separately, or live with several players, it can sound very impressive. And I don't hear much stereo in all SM instruments, I always treat them as mono. In fact, to my knowledge the level mete…
  • http://www.samplemodeling.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=392&p=2128&hilit=receptor#p2128 I think nobody has it tried yet.
  • I read that the USB version does not have a touch plate for the left thumb.
  • indeed interesting.
  • yes, this is a good strategy. Only buy at the very last moment when there is a real need for it. Because next week there will be a new offer that is better . . . Concerning netbook/notebook/tablet, I think a model with two displays might be int…
  • you are right, with a dual core CPU there shouldn't be any problems. We are still used to think of netbooks with Atom CPU's that are 'at the edge' for music software in general, but in reality the border between netbook and notebook is not so clear …
  • yes it's not sure if this inspiron duo will perform well enough. However it is possible to play on a netbook, especially the saxes and the trombones. Still it is quite at the edge of its power, if you want to add a reverb it needs to be a very CPU-l…
  • well this sounds very complicated. But what's the difference between the French Horn and, say, a trumpet or trombone?
  • if yes, why? I'm not educated in brass instruments, so I wonder what makes you think so.
  • webmaster wrote: An exception might concern The Sax Brothers. Although developed on Kontakt, using an unconventional engine, they suffer from a slight jitter problem, caused by the internal clock working in microseconds rather than synchronized …
  • thank you also, good to know. Although I never ran into this problem, I always run my mobile computers without battery in the slot, except when I'm sitting in a train. But there I don't play music. But I have to create a power plan in W7 when I…
  • in my experience the trumpet needs the most CPU power of all Samplemodeling instruments. However, I can load each instrument (one trumpet, all saxes, all trombones) into one Kontakt 4 player, and the CPU is not high when I play one instrument at a t…

  • nothing special for me. A bit of delay or reverb sometimes.
  • this will do. I am using core2duo laptops, and I can easily load several instruments into Kontakt.
  • do the sections sound boring because all notes are quantized, or is it the lack of live-like articulation?
  • thanks for the tip. After a quick try it seems to help. It's interesting, I did not observe the voice count yet. A normal note has 12 voices, and note changes increase that number for a very short moment.
  • just a thought - what about getting a Macbook to play the Trombone? I mean, pragmatically thinking, you only need a platform to run K4 and a MIDI/audio interface. Except the trumpet I can play all Samplemodeling instruments on a $300 netbook in…
