  • I may use the english term "dynamic" in a wrong way (sry, i'm french ) By dynamic, i mean the "area" between the lowest sound and the strongest sound of an instrument. And even if this is always theorical, especially when it depends on the breat…
  • The main idea of the chart is not to have something you HAVE to follow, but something to compare to. The most important part of it is the dynamics, as i strongly doubt that there are huge disprancies even in heavily "zimmerish" score. For example, t…
  • Really nice ! Orchestrated with taste and subtlety. Sry, it's not a bad comment, my apologies ^^. I like your runs, apart from the "non mixed yet" part, they really sound authentic. What library do you use (for non sample modeling instruments, of …
  • By searching on the internet, i found some dynamic range chart which gives an approximation, a practical dynamic range : Violin : 35 db Viola : 30 db Cello : 30 db Double Bass : 30 db Flute: 20 db Oboe: 30 db Clarinet: 40 db Ba…
  • Really nice ! I like it a lot. A lot of colors and character, and a very balanced yet moving ensemble. I really love the sliding trombone at 30s. This would be outstanding inside mir pro. Yeah i know, talking about it all the time. ^^
  • Thx for the compliment ^^. Yes, i composed everything.
  • Well, now we want to hear it in a realistic setup ^^. Your fault This would sound so great inside mir pro... Yeah i know, i'm talking about it all the time, but it changes nearly everything .
  • Actually, VSL MIR PRO did everything for me ^^. I know that it's a studio and not a concert hall, but I don't remember which one... I think it's the Weiler Studio, and it adds indeed a really "wooden" quality to the sound. So, your old ears might no…
  • Thx for the quick answer ! So, in a nutshell, each instrument has its own way of doing things The horn has always its cc25 set up to 127, the trumpet, to 0, and the tombone has no fixed value. I didn't catch these subtleties from the manual (…
  • Hi willow. Well first of all, you have some midi, now, since you have an Ewi Usb ^^. Did you try to activate the windcontroller mode inside your instrument ? By default, your ewi usb is sending midi datas on the CC2 (not cc11), and activat…
  • Very interesting thread. Glad you bumped it, Ginharbringer ^^ I have a question : when using the windcontroller mode, does the velocity still has the same impact on the attack ? Or is it completely transparent in this case, and in this case onl…
  • And i just realized i forgot to change the tempo, so my example is much slower than yours.
  • Here's my test. I just injected your midi files in my setup without any tweaking.
  • Nice ! I think your main problem is the same as everyone encounters with dry close samples : how to really wet the sound. Your placement is quite good, but you lack one more thing IMO : you need to alter the sound itself. You see, in a real hall, …
  • You might want to look at the Behringer FCB1010. A bit tricky to set up, but much cheaper, and with two pedals. If you're new to this, it might be a good way to have a functional setup without spending too much money before knowing what you really l…
  • Thx guys ! Looks like i'm just gonna stick with my own setup for now (I use vienna hybrid reverb (ER + algorythmic tail) + TILT filters to alter the timbre of instruments and push them away). I did one test with VSS, and it was less convincing …
  • Oh, maybe i was not clear. I prefer to have as much instruments as possible before this midi editor. That's also why it's a looooooooooooooong shot ^^. I completely agree with you. That was just some abstract thinking about how to improve thing…
  • Nope. "note off" is normally beginning with 8 (8n.xx.yy), while notes on begins with a 9 (9n.xx.yy). But maybe note on with 0 vel is more often used, i don't own every single keyboard on the market ^^
  • I can confirm that the EWI (usb, at least) sends "note" messages. But only note on. "note off" messages from the ewi are "note on" with velocity at 0.
  • Do you use "all midi in" on your midi tracks ? If so, don't it seems that cubase 7 is not able to handle multiple midi inputs on a single midi track... At least on my computer. Don't know if it's the same for everybody. I ended merging all my m…
  • Yep. I think the only differences, besides one being usb, and the other, midi, is the fact that the ewi usb is cheaper, has only 4 octave rollers, and no portamento switch (which is useless anyway for a keyboard player)
  • If you already have a BC, the main difference with the ewi, in your configuration, is the bite. It think that the breath control might be a bit more precise on the ewi as well, but not sure on that one. I personaly use the ewi as a breath contro…
  • I just realized that i was exclusively thinking about the swam instruments, aka reed instruments. I still think that for them, the bite is the better choice for a slight pitch modulation, since the main way to do a vibrato on a real instrument rem…
  • What kind of settings do you use ? I've tried to control vibrato only with airflow, but the result was not convincing enough to me. A bit too "static". I also think that biting changes the airflow a little, creating a small volume change. But it m…
  • But when you only do it with the airflow, you lack the small pitch change which is necessary to make a credible vibrato. I use to try to do it that way too, but i'm converted to bite, now ^^ That's, of course, only my personal opinion.
  • I'm not a protools (not even mac) user, but... Are you sure the note-off is sent ? Maybe you could do some monitoring to check where the message is lost, exactly. I agree that the problem seems to come from Kontakt and samplemodeling, but it's bet…
