the trumpet/logic 8/stability problems

hi from vienna/austria!

i´m having some problems with system stability in connection with "the trumpet". first of all i have to say I TOTALLY LOVE IT- congratulation!.

BUT;-):

as i´m currently working on a major orchestra/big band arrangement the air gets thin. i got a new macpro 2.8Ghz, with 10GB RAM (so this is not the problem), an i´m using quite a lot VSL instruments (this could be the problem;-), an then i get those "memory is getting low" messages from kontakt 2 (the trumpet/ i use trumpet 1,2,3). and then (often) logic is freezing, and i got to reload everything.

what is wrong? should i upgrade to kontakt 3 or is it that logic can´t handle more than 4GB Ram?

please help!

2nd question:

how can i freeze my tracks, when i use 3 trumpets (in one kontakt 2?

thank you so much for your answer!!

greetings

    Hi Christian,

glad you like The Trumpet :-)

Honestly speaking we never experienced such a problem, so it´s difficult for me to guess what could be the reason. We had some logic related problems on much older systems, but you have a really powerfull machine... I´m not a Logic expert at all, but did you check that so-called "live mode"? Practically it means that you have to deactivate the track on which the trumpet plugin is running - otherwise the CPU load caused by Logic is several times higher (!).

What wonders me is the message ""memory is getting low" - this has definitely nothing to do with The Trumpet, since this instruments needs about 50 MB...

I strongly suggest to contact Native Instruments, since they provide the support for the player used in The Trumpet. They should also have an overview of all the Logic - related problems.

As far as the freezing is concerned - this is suitable mostly for plugins with just one nki opened. Since it wouldn´t be reasonable to open 3 Kontakt2 instances, maybe you could stay within just one K2 (with 3 nkis) as it is now and simply bounce this track to audio. Yes, this is not so convenient, but quite usefull... :-)

Maybe the guys at NI will have some brilliant practical ideas.

If you have any further questions, please don´t hesitate to write an e-mail using our contact page.

    Hello,

Logic 8 itself can only access 3 GB of RAM. All standard plug ins including Kontakt have to share these 3 GB of RAM.

EXS24 and VSL Ensemble provide possibilities to access more than 3 GB RAM. VSL Ensemble keeps the sample a separate process out of Logic.

What could held is to lower the DFD slider in your Kontakt instances.(main options/DFD)

The Default setting is 60 MB which enables the kontakt instances to stream 168 voices at a time. I assume it not necessary to reserve 60 MB for a few Trumpet instances.

The best way to increase performance and free RAM is to run the VSL instrument in Ensemble.

    hi to you all!

sorry peter, that i didn´t reply and say thank you very much for your answer. since the system update 10.5.3, and the logic update 8.0.2, everything is better concerning system stability.

but still sometimes i experience logic breakdowns. and I THINK it happens nearly always when there i use the sound of the muted trumpet (holding down the Bb in the left hand), then it´s just to much for the computer- running 2 vsl ensemble instances (including 18 VSL instruments),BFD2, ivory piano etc. at the same time. I´m using the freeze function where i can (or bouncing), to save RAM (although i have lots of it-14GB) but we all know logic can handle all of this.

it´s gonna be a "work in progress".

once again: "I love the trumpet", it´s just great!.

and once again sorry and many things to you paul for the answer, and of course to frank!
