Seaboard and adanced D-Beam

edited April 2014 in General Questions
Did anybody try SWAM with ROLI's "seaboard" ->

A small variant of same might be a nice Alternative to any kind of BC, if you are a keyboarder.

Moreover, Yesterday I was shown an demo of a device that (similar to D-Rolands BeamController, but seemingly much more advanced) outputs the x, y and z position of a fingertip you place above it. In fact it consists of a single chip and a very simple PCB and thus costs close to nothing. As no mechanics is necessary, I could rather easily do a device that outputs Midi (5-Pin or USB) from same. Might something like this - on top of a keyboard - be a viable thing to work with Swam ?

    Michael,

we have developed the latest SWAM instruments releases (Flute 1.0, Saxes and Clarinets 2.4, Double Reeds 1.7) so that they are fully compatible with the ROLI Seaboard; just set the expression to "AT" (After Touch) so that the expression can be controlled by the Poly-Pressure events sent by the Seaboard.

That D-beam-like chip it is really interesting. Is there a webpage about it?

    Hi Emanuele.

I understand that you are with SampleModeling. Correct ?

Good news regarding the seaboard. It would be great to see a video demoing Seaboard + Swam.

    Regarding the "advanced D-Beam" device:

There currently is nothing but the chip and a demo-board available by the manufacture. The chip has an I²C interface and of course needs an additional microprocessor to hook it to USB or Midi.

A "SWAM-Beam" :D device would look like a flat box (say 10*10*1 cm) and could easily be attached on the surface of most keyboards and would simply use a cable to an USB socket of the PC. (Providing Midi and USB In for the keyboard would be doable - just dreaming). The device would output (e.g.) three cc values for x, y, and z. I suppose your software would easily be able to deal with that, but advanced pre-processing could easily be done if necessary. On top of this we could implement stuff like some "buttons", that would be activated when indeed touching the surface at certain spots.

If you are interested to provide such a device to your customers, I could manage to get it built for you. A friend of mine could do the hardware (in not too high quantities) and I (as a potential user) could do the firmware. I could manage to provide you with an "ugly" a prototype supposedly in a rather short time.

Of course, if you intend to work with some hardware manufacturer of your choice, I will try to be helpful, anyway.

Please com back via e-mail if you are interested in more details.
