Could not add library ...?

edited July 2014 in General Questions
I just tried to add the trombone v3 to the library tab in Kontakt 5.3 full version. I got the response "could not add library". Anybody else got similar experience? I looked at the installation manual and the only thing I can think of is, that I copied the EULA and notes from the root folder into the library folder. Could this be the reason I cannot register? Would be new to me ...

  • FriFlo,

not sure if I understand your issue... You "tried to add the trombone v3 to the library tab"? How did you do it? This is not the way described in the Installation Guide. One has to use the "Add Library" feature of the Kontakt software. Please proceed exactly as described in the Installation Guide. Should you experience any problems or need an assistance, please do not hesitate to contact our support via the Contact page.

I meant exactly what you described, Peter. I press the add library button and select the root folder of the Trombone v3 library.

I could successfully load Trombone v3 in the Kontakt 5 standalone version. However, when i opened the VST plugin in Cubase the trombone v3 library showed an error, stating that it does not find the file "The Trombone 3.0.nicnt" in the library path. And in fact - that file does not exist in the library path (i did not find it in the package).

I could load Trombone 3 in the Kontakt 4 plugin, no problem.

For now i resort to just load the instruments via file browsing.

    Any idea?

I had this same problem. After I upgraded Kontakt to the latest version it worked though. I know you said you were already running 5.3 but try to update it anyways (check the service center for updates).

There is no new update in the service center. I already checked this. Most recently, I added Berlin Strings (and before that many other libraries) successfully. That's why it must be something particular with SM trombone v3. I will contact NI to see if they can help me, but I gathered there maybe someone else encountering the same problem and it is usually much faster than contacting NI support. Thanks for the help, guys!

I could add it this afternoon, and I played around with it. (I love it, huge improvement over an already amazing instrument.)

Then I turned off Cubase and left the house. Now that I'm back, I open up Cubase again, "Library content not found."

I try to search for the appropriate folder, I tried to remove and re-add the library. The result is the same. It cannot find "The Trombone 3.0.nicnt" in the proper folder. A file which, by the way, isn't in the .zip file I downloaded.

    Dear Friends,

it seems that Native Instruments has a Kontakt 5 compatibility problem. This is what we found out so far, after thorough consulting with NI:

    - the misterious "nicnt file" is the file belonging normally to Kontakt 5 libraries. We did our best to keep The Trombone 3 compatible with Kontakt 4, expecting that many of our users will appreciate it. Therefore we are still using the Info.nkx file inside the library, required by Kontakt 4 (the "nicnt file" replaced the info.nkx file in K5).

    - For some unknown reasons K5 loses the reference to the Info.nkx (to be more precise: "The Trombone 3.0_info.nkx") and starts to search for an nicnt file as if it were a Kontakt 5 library. Of course this file does not exist within our library.

    - strange enough: NI was unable so far to reproduce this problem even on several systems

    - so far we received several confirmations that updating to the actual version 5.3 solved the problem (this is actually the version we provide with Trombone 3)

A kind request to all of you still experiencing the issue above, as well as the problems with Service Center (Library not seen): please write to NI support providing them exact steps to reproduce it, including the system facts and software versions. We are unable to do it for you, because we do not know enough details about your systems.

Please note that a report like "I cannot use the instrument because it says that the nicnt file is missing" is far from being sufficient. NI asks for:

    - your operating system (e.g. "Mac OS 10.9.1")

    - whether standalone or within a host; if host: which version (e.g. Logic Pro X 10.0.6)

    - which Kontakt version

    - WHEN exactly the problem appears (e.g. "when loading an nki", if so, which nki?)

    - whether you are using an older session using previous version of the instrument

    - if possible, please provide screenshots of:

    - the error message

    - the library folder (to show the file structure inside it)

Please note that only with these facts Native Instruments is able to track the problem and fix it.

But first - please try Kontakt 5.3.

Sorry for the inconvenience, and thank you for your patience!

As i stated earlier i have no issue loading the Trombone library in the Kontakt 5.3 standalone version. However, it does not work in the VST plugin.

I have opened a request at NI but have no response yet.

I noticed that the version of the Kontakt 5 plugin is not 5.3 but something like 5.1.0.xxxx. Haven tried yet if i can upgrade the VST plugin.

I still enjoy the instrument though .. i just load it via file system.

Thanks SM. Updated Kontakt to 5.3 and it works now.

Sorry to drudge this back up.

I just updated to Kontakt 5.3.1.0.4 and The Trombone 3.0 "Library content not found. Click Locate to set the content."

I already had the Trombone 3.0 installed on my computer and working, I just updated to the latest version of K5.

It looks for the "The Trombone 3.0.nicnt" file that is obviously not there when I try to manually locate it.

When I remove the library and try to re "Add Library" it comes up with the same error.

None of my other libraries have this problem. The Trumpet, The Trombone (original), and Horn & Tuba all load content fine.

    Any thoughts?
