Happy New Year to Everyone!

I've uploaded some jazz versions of some well known JS Bach pieces arranged with accompaniment from a Hal Leonard Play along book (HL-120).

I've also started a moderated Classic-to-Jazz Group on SoundCloud and invite you to upload your songs.

Thanks,

Dan

    Nice !

How is piano and drums done ? (Score ? Instruments ? )

    "Sleepers awake":

From the op of my head I remember the Melody differently. Did you change the tone gender in any (which) way ? Why ?

    Michael,

I'm afraid I take zero credit for the accompaniment. The arrangements were done by Jim Taylor and Mark Roberts for Hal Leonard Jazz Play-Along vol 120. You get the score and a CD with the tracks which are played twice, once with the melody (saxophone or trumpet), and once without. It's similar to the Music Minus One series, whereas the Jamie Aebersold series of Play-Along CDs have only the accompaniment. I have found these recordings extremely useful for learning to play, as well as for anyone who does not have access to a jazz combo. Of course there are versions for other musical genres including classical.

The Sleepers Awake melody is pretty much the same:

There might be a measure that might be changed, but this jazz arrangement has a lot of syncopation ( I think) which makes it sound different, kind of weird but in a good way. I did not like it the first time I played it, but my wife did, and so I played it a couple more times and found that I started liking it.

I don't always play melodies note for note, but I usually stick pretty close to it since I have a lot to learn about improvisation.

I hope that answers your questions fully,

    Best,

Sorry but no. There are not only rhythm changes (which I do appreciate) but also lot's of different notes in the melody (that I don't appreciate) .

But of course everything is a matter of taste. :D

I hate to agree with you but I'm sure you are correct :)
