Logic 7 and Track Automation

edited September 2008 in General Questions
Hi,

I try to use the trumpet with logic 7 using logic’s track automation to draw dynamic curves, but, unfortunately, the trumpet does not seem to recognise CC11 (or any other) events that are sent by the track automation.

It only responds to controller events which are object-based, i.e., which are written using the older logic hyperdraw.

Can’t I adress the trumpet’s controllers via logic’s track automation?

Another thing is, that some controller events, like the CC23, are recorded correctly (generating and playing back Midi-events w/values from 1-127), but when viewed with hyperdraw they are „rendered“ to an on/off behavior, resulting in values either 0 or 127, like a sustain pedal. OK, probably this is merely a logic issue, but maybe someone can help here as well.

Thanks, Jan

  • MassMover,

yes, this is a Logic issue. It seems to be well known, making problems with many other plugins. There is, however, a remedy, since the most of the logic users are working with The Trumpet and other plugins succesfully. This is what I could find out:

    1. If you can generate CC11 with your pedal, please do it. In this case Logic won´t move the channel fader. It will try to move the volume slider of the plugin itself - but this should be blocked on the Kontakt level. If not, make sure that the function "Accept standard controllers for Volume and Pan" in the instrument Options (not general Kontakt Options) is deactivated.

    2. If your keyboard has only the volume pedal input, you have to use CC7. In this case it´s necessary to use the Transformer, to redirect CC7 to CC11. If you are not familiar with it, please use the attached file as a kind of template, where this remaping is already performed. Sorry, I couldn´t check this file as I don´t use Logic, but a friend of mine created and tested it, so it must work. In this case no remaping of CC7 to CC11 on the instrument level should be present.

    3. Concerning you automation data problem: you shouldn´t use automation data, but only "pure" MIDI data. Automation data would have to be assigned first on the Kontakt level manually (see Player manual) - this, however, is not fully possible, since not all the parameters are accessible on the GUI. For that reason please use only recorded or programmed MIDI tracks - including the MIDI controller data.

I hope it helps. Maybe highly experienced Logic users could propose something better, but I haven´t found any yet... :-)

    All the best

    Peter
