Warning EWI-USB users who also have GPO or JABB

edited February 2013 in Windcontrollers
Until recently my MIDI-AUDIO machine was Win XP 64 bit. The EWI-USB software's portion that loads and saves EWI configuration did not work. I have to assume that the EWI retains it's MIDI parameter settings when the software for loading/saving of these parameters does not work.

I recently replaced the Win XP 64 bit machine with a new Win 7 64 bit system. After I loaded EWI-USB along with GPO and JABB3, the EWI configuration again failed to work. It would hang and had to be shut down after attempting to load a setting, but it played ok.

Following the suggestion of Akai tech support I uninstalled the EWI-USB software and re-loaded again. I got some errors, but the loading and saving actually worked !

Instead of leaving well enough alone I upgraded the Aria player to version 1.626 from the Plogue support page.

The Aria player seemed quite a bit improved and sounded cleaner, but now the EWI-USB loading and saving broke. I uninstalled and re-installed a number of times (including cleaning out some registry entries) but it did not help. I also installed another Plogue update which was supposed to fix EWI-USB so it would work with the newer Aria engine (1.626), but that too failed to fix the problem.

Both EWI-USB software and GPO etc. use the same Plogue/Aria folder so unfortunately you cannot isolate the two programs. I believe that's part of the problem.

Anyway I installed EWI-USB on another machine (Win XP 64 bit) that had no midi or music software or hardware and it fails to load or save here either, although it plays, but of course with only the integrated VIA HD sound card the latency and sound quality is horrible. I can only conclude that Win XP 64 bit is incompatible with part of the EWI-USB software.

I will next install the EWI-USB on a Win XP 32bit machine and see if that works.

The Akai and Garritan tech support has just about given up on my case.

In Summary:

WARNING

If you have EWI-USB and GPO etc. do not update past the v 1.504 version or you will break your EWI-USB software's ability to load and save EWI configurations.
