The Trumpet: Vibrato to shake: Smoother transition

edited July 2008 in General Questions
First I have to say (like many others here): The trumpet is a brilliant piece of software. I have one question (or suggestion) though:

The vibrato is well implemented (I think it is a tricky LFO programming rather than sample based vibrato) but the transition to the shakes could be smoother imo. Is (or could there be with an update) a possibility to have more influence on the vibrato and most importantly get a smoother transition between vibrato and shakes?

Maybe I´m the only one who wants this. Other opinions or suggestions are highly welcome

Thanks very much

    Hi Raindog,

    yes, you are the only one asking for that :-).

    We carefully studied the real trumpet articulations and tested many possible CC1 curves. Here are the reasons for our choice:

    1. A real trumpet player changes from "normal" vibrato to a shake rapidly anyway. It´s a kind of "switching", not a gradual change;

    2. Maybe efects between regular vibrato and shakes are needed from time to time as a special effect, I agree. But for this purspose there are still enough CC1 settings leading to the desired effect. Maybe they are not so easy to be reached quickly in real time, but they can be easily programmed.

    3. Designing a soft, gradual curve between no vibrato and excessive vibrato (shake) would worsen the ModWheel resolution in its most important section: "normal" vibrato. The player would have to stay probably in only 20% of the ModWheel range, having much less precise control over the regular vibrato.

    All the best
