Using Kontakt effects and IRs with The Trumpet and Mr Sax T?

Hey folks,

I was wanting to use The Trumpet and Mr Sax T with some different Impulse Responses and/or other effects from within the Kontakt 3.5 engine. But these libraries do not have the usual TOOL (wrench) icon that all my other Kontakt libraries have, so I don't know how to get under the hood and adjust the reverb and effects.

Is this not possible with these libraries? Any insights will be appreciated.

Loving these instruments by the way. Hoping for a trombone and a clarinet to soon follow.

I was just browsing this forum and I read the response to another question saying that you can indeed add Impulse Responses to the convolution reverb in Kontakt and use those on the SampleModeling instruments. So that's great and what I would have expected!

Now I just have to figure out how to get under the hood of these instruments. There must be a button or an option somewhere that I am overlooking. I wish it was the same standardized button for getting under the hood as all my other instruments include.
  • Hi zed,

did you have a look into the User´s Guides of the latest versions?..

These are: The Trumpet 2.51 and the saxophones 1.51. If not - please go to the Service Center and download the necessary ZIP files. Doing so you will get the updated User Guides. In The Trumpet User´s Guide, you will find the description how do use the Convolution Reverb on the page 26 (Appendix 1). There is also a short explanation in the Sax Brother´s manual, on the page 10. How to use the aux sends must be also explained in the Kontakt Player Manual (via Help menu).

Please let us know if you need any further assistance.

    Best regards

    Thanks Peter.

I get it now. This is not the way I have been using convolution reverb in Kontakt, since I have been saving effects as inserts within my instruments presets. So with this I have learned a new way to do this... and since I will probably want numerous horns loaded which will all share the same IR this is obviously a more efficient way to work.

Just out of curiosity, though... why is the other option for adding inserts and effects and saving them with the preset not available for your instruments (i.e. the wrench icon that opens up the instrument editor)? Is this a limitation that you have deliberately put on your instruments?

    In appreciation,

  • Dear Zed,

to use the convolution reverb on the instrument level - using its inserts - would need one convolver per instrument. This would lead to a much higher CPU load. It´s much better to open one convolution unit in the return channel and use the send-return principle. You can open several instruments and still use the same effect for all. And - you can of course store it as Multi.

Moreover, to make the instrument inserts available would mean to leave the instrument editor open and to make the instruments editable. However, our instruments are NOT editable. They are programmed in a fully unconventional way and touching any of the parameters would immediately spoil the instrument and would keep the support extremely busy... :-)

For that reason - after very careful consideration - we decided to lock our instruments, what is, BTW, not a very uncommon practice among other developers of virtual instruments.

It simply corresponds to the sticker you frequently see on some high-tech hardware:

"No user serviceable parts inside"... :-)

Thanks for the explanation! I figured that it was probably something like that. :-)

    That's a great point!

I'm actually grateful that I couldn't access the effects in the usual way since there's no telling how many months may have gone by with me doing things using that less efficient method. Sharing the reverb is definitely the way to go.
