CC 95 resets self sometimes, hanging notes, "horror movie clusters" out of nowhere

Hello, first of all, thanks so much for the recent update, you guys. AMAZING -- I can now dial in the kinds of shorts that this library is too often (and unfairly, might I add) -- critiqued for. For those who have yet to check it out, absolutely download the latest update, you will not regret it ...

Some issues I'm having though: (My daw is REAPER, and I suspect it may be a culprit)

I'm noticing CC 95 (ensemble size) (maybe I'm getting the number wrong, I'm typing this from memory, but it's the one for ens. size) -- resetting itself. Like, even if I have drawn the CC lanes manually for it in my sequencer to keep it at one static setting (I'm not trying to modulate it, mind you, just keep it in one place..) I've definitely noticed it happening in the 2nd violins ensemble (even with the latest update).

Also, I've noticed 'horror movie clusters' and weird glissandi portions which come out of nowhere from some instruments while my DAW is paused from some of the multi's split instruments (I've noticed this on both V2 and Va, also both with latest update). Think of pausing and playing a lot when working in a piano roll on a MIDI trying to draw in all your CCs, the constant stopping and replaying to hear your changes, then it starts to happen. Killing all midi signals with reaper's F3 shortcut doesn't change it, and also saving, exiting the DAW, and re-opening the session does not fix it. This issue in particular has been very, very frustrating.

Otherwise, lovely amazing software, loving the recent update. Would really love some help though in resolving this, I've tried reaper's midi settings but there's a lot of them. I'm trying to find triggers to troubleshoot this but it's hard to replicate exactly, right now.

  • I use Reaper asm well and so I might be able to check....

What do you mean by "CC xx is resetting itself" ? The DAW does not send CCs, but of course it will push DAW parameter valzes onto the plugin when loading it in a project. In Kontakt certain plugin values might be linked as well to CCs as to DAW parameters.

You might want to place a ReaControlMidi plugin right before Kointakt and enable logging to see what Midi messages actually are sent to Kontakt.

The UI knob for Ensemble Size in the Instrument Multi inside the Kontakt window visibly resets to the smallest value after pausing the session playback (with spacebar). I'll observe it, even if I delete the CC data for that CC and manually turn the knob where I want it and hit synchronize ensemble after, the behavior will repeat itself after pausing the DAW once again. That seems to be another thing I recall happening, was I was also at some point getting "synchronize ensemble" warnings when using ReaControlMidi for certain CCs, as well.

In this case, I'm not using a controller, so I send the CCs to Kontakt not with ReaControlMidi, but by using the CC lanes and envelopes inside Reaper's piano roll editor. I found that using ReaControlMidi starting causing me certain issues with hardware synths, sending CCs and Midis data at slightly different latencies to one of my synths so I opt for the piano roll CC lanes as that seems to produce the least amount of wonkiness for me across setups, and only use ReaControlMidi generally if I want to take advantage of (e.g. parameter modulation etc) something specific to the RCM-vst.

Also, I don't know if you experience this, but whenever I pause, I get the most annoying spikes in volume from every instrument -- like an appended staccato FF note -- it's also happening with the brass. I haven't even changed any default settings from Reaper OR SampleModeling.... so frustrating. It's not just due to the cursor jumping back when I hit pause, because it does that no matter where the cursor resets to.

These last few lines are where things get weird.

  • I fixed the staccato blast issue, it's to DISABLE (uncheck) the option "playback stop" for on-stop in Reaper:

Reset MIDI CC/PItch on: playback start , playback stop, playback loop/skip.

The option resets notes and CCs to a neutral state. (not what we want at all when we're manually doing envelopes in the piano roll..)

As it does what it says, this should also fix my issue with the ens. size and mod also resetting when hitting space bar. So consider this one solved! This is what I love about Reaper. So many ways to configure it to behave the best for what you're doing. I'm sure I'll have a WAY less frustrating experience with Samplemoduling instruments now.. 😀 glad it wasn't a bug, I didn't think it was..
