Miles Davis Harmon Mute emulation question

Has anyone had any luck emulating the "throaty" sound Miles used particularly in his low range when using a harmon mute? Think the lowest notes in the melody on "Round Midnight", circa 1958. At about 1:33 (and several times before): https://youtu.be/Ys9wiGNDCvA

I'm not positive, but I have the feeling he may have used a slight half-valve technique, so we can assume so harmonic shaping for sure, obviously a decrease in the higher harmonics through probably even the lower mids, but if anyone has thoughts, I'd be grateful for any ideas. https://youtu.be/Ys9wiGNDCvAhttps://youtu.be/Ys9wiGNDCvA
