Trumpet sending control 21 (growl) To Mr.SaxT in Kontakt 3

edited August 2009 in General Questions
Hi, I was noticing that when I played Mr saxT with Trumpet in Kontakt3.5 player I was getting cc21 values sent to Mr. saxT making the sound growl inappropriately... Is this a bug that will be fixed when trumpet is updated or are there other changes I should be making. Thanks...

  • No, it´s not a bug :-)

Whenever possible, we emphasize the necessity of reading the manuals - as we do, for example, in the Readme file attached to the Installer. There is an important sentence on page 5 of the Sax Brothers User´s Guide (version 1.51; this manual refers to any of our saxophones):

"- Using several Mr. Sax instances: never open more than one Sax in a single instance of the Kontakt Player/Sampler (stand-alone or plug-in). Due to the unconventional sound engine of the Saxes, two instruments in one player will interfere, leading to a compromised sound quality. Instead, open each instrument in a separate instance of the Kontakt plug-in."

This also concerns a sax and The Trumpet opened in the same Kontakt instance. There are, by the way, no particular drawbacks: the new Kontakt 3.5 is optimized for this task, since multiple Kontakt instances use almost the same amount of memory and CPU load.

BTW: Please note that The Trumpet is developed for Kontakt 2, so if possible, play it in K2. If it´s necessary to use K3.5, do not forget to use patches named "for K3 only" - never open K2 version in K3.5, since there are differences between both versions.

    Best regards

it appears that it depends on the setup of the studio, especially the MIDI setup. I play Samplemodeling instruments with a EWI that goes through a FCB1010 foot controller. Lots of CC's are being used simultaneously. Loading all saxes and the trumpet in one single Kontakt 3.5 player works flawlessly. A simple change of the EWI MIDI channel output selects one of the four instruments, and I never observed CC values bleeding through.

I just wanted to say that the described problem does not appear everywhere, using one Kontakt for multiple instruments may work.

Thank you for the answer. I figured that this was a user (me) based issue and not a problem with the program. More careful reading of the manual or at least understanding it will be of more help to me.

well it could be a setup related issue, not a user related issue. Some things simply do not work on certain systems, but loading each instrument with a separate Kontakt player should solve it I guess.

Good to hear that this won't affect the performance, I didn't know that.
