Big band with Trumpet

Hi,



Just wondering whether there there are any tricks/tips someone can offer when layering up The Trumpet to get big band 'squealing', portamento slide and staccato effects?



Been trying without much success - also, the new sax instrument sounds great for doing soft solo lines, but would it be good for oing any jazz big band stuff?



If not, what would you recommend to add in combination with The Trumpet?

Hi Cato,



did you try to search in our forum? We has this topic already several time, as far as I remember.

The basic rules are:

- never control more than 1 instrument from a single source (like keyboard or sequencer track)

- never use exactly the same timing, articulation, intonation etc.

Instead

- play the single tracks as differently as possible - especially as far as the timing, pitch and phrasing is concerned; simply play the tracks individually, as different musicians would do...

Thanks for this, some useful stuff. I did a quick search, but I obviously didn't look in the right places as this post: http://www.samplemodeling.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=239&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=big+band is very useful!



I'm going to buy the Tenor sax later today and add that to the mix, but it's going to be hard to get a full big band sound without using some samples in there I think as, like you mentioned in the post I linked to, I'll need trombones and alto saxes in there.



I'll take a look at the MIDI of those files you mention as well.
