Playing Layers in Kontakt stand alone

edited March 2009 in General Questions
I could use some help-ideas on how to setup instances in the player so they could be recalled with an external pedal.

I thought the easy way would be to change channels and I can do this via the Synthophone. I did a simple test assigning Mr Sax to channel 1 and The Trumpet to channel 2. After an external command from the Synthophone to change channels the sax didn't play and the trumpet did but very erratically with drop outs. I don't have a clue why the different behavior.

Another method that worked but isn't as convenient is to use the instruments as VST's in a Reaper sequencer. I could assign a key to mute Channel 1 and another key to mute channel 1.

I hope there is a better way. Can anyone help a midi challenged old hack?

This should have read "I could assign a key to mute Channel 1 and another key to mute channel 2"

I should also clarify that when I assigned a key I meant to say PC keyboard Key. I haven't even got close to figuring out how to assign an instrument key.

dear bobhunt, I use multiple instances of SampleModeling instruments exactly how you describe it. It works well.

I switch the MIDI-channel via a MIDI-interface of a different computer. Maybe you should check the output of your Synthophone, if the channel switching works correct and if there are some undesired MIDI messages occurring like Program Change or even SysEx.

If the problem persists you can always use a dedicated channel switch which will work for sure.

    Thanks Phil,

I think your idea for a dedicated Channel switch would be best for me. Your idea that some SysEx data is being generated is probably right. I don't know how to modify that or know even if it can be modified.

Anyone have recommendations for a Channel switch?

or you can use MIDIOX with a second computer and MIDI interface.

Another idea is to filter your incoming MIDI data and change channels in your Synthophone.
