MIDI RPNs - volunteers for a little test ......

As I don't own the Trumpet and Mr Sax T yet, I can't carry out the test below myself. I did contact NI, asking if the Kontakt Player responds to MIDI RPNs (Registered Parameter Numbers), but so far no reply.

I'm looking for users of the Trumpet and Mr Sax T who are willing to do a little experiment for me, using RPNs. It involves sending a sequence of MIDI control changes (CCs).

I want to establish if the instruments can be configured for use with MIDI guitar. For effective midi guitar operation, the pitch bend range needs to be set to at least 12 semi tones (so string bends, hammer-ons, pull-offs, etc, are translated properly).

The current configuration does not provide facilities to change the pitch bend range the normal way. It could be achieved using RPNs, if the Kontakt Player responds to the following sequence of MIDI control changes (CCs):

101 value 0

100 value 0

6 value 12

101 value 127

100 value 127

Please let me know if it worked. If it did work, you can reset it by restarting the Kontakt Player (or sending the above CC sequence, but with value 2 for CC 6).

Although the pitch bend range needs to be large for MIDI guitar, the pitch bend amount applied to the instruments by the guitar pitch-to-midi converter will only be a fraction of the full range. However, if the test above is successful, the change you'll get with a keyboard pitch bend wheel will be large.

Here is a link to the 'MIDI Guitar Controller' thread where I first raised the issue, with some comments from Giorgio and Peter. Page 2 has the relevant comments.
