Problem with Sonar 5PE and The Trumpet RESOLVED

edited March 2009 in General Questions
I'm thinking it's more of a Sonar 5 PE problem. The Trumpet sounds beautiful for a couple minutes...usually long enough to get my track recorded. It seems to become gradually more unstable the longer I play it. Clicks & sluggish notes. Eventually I get a crash & blue screen. If I purge and reload The Trumpet into Kontakt when it starts to become unstable, it sounds and plays great for another few minutes. My CPU stays around 25 to 30% as I'm playing. The same thing happens in Kontakt Player and Kontakt 3. I don't have problems with other, much larger libraries in Kontakt. I've been using a breath controller for expression and now using the new breath controller mode. My PC is 3ghz with 2 gigs of ram, separate drives for OS, samples and audio, EMU 1820M sound card. I read that someone had great luck recording breath controller information after upgrading to Sonar 8. His description of troubles recording BC info with Sonar 5, 6 and 7 sounded very similar to mine. Whatever I have to do to get it working smoothly would be worth it to me! I'll be getting Mr. Sax T as soon as it's out too! Thanks for any info. ;) -Perry-

  • Dear Perry,

sorry about that, but it really looks like a Sonar-related problem - or at leats Sonar vs. Kontakt. The only thing I can do is to encourage you to contact Native Instruments. Not only because they are actually the party providing the technical support for The Trumpet; they have also the best experience with their software and any issues with different hosts.

BTW - I wonder how does it work in the standalone mode... Have you tried this?

    Best

I'm using Sonar 7 Producer Edition and I've the same problems since I upgraded The Trumpet to vers. 2.

The Trumpet ver.1 worked without any problem in Sonar 7. Vers.2 plays great for 2 minutes. After 2 minutes I listen glitches and distortion.

I emailed tech support at Native Instruments. They told me they would order Sonar8 PE and do some testing and get back to me. I will upgrade to Sonar8 if that indeed would solve it. I purchased Mr. Sax T and it seems to be much more stable on my system than the Trumpet. I tried using The Trumpet in stand alone and it still glitches after a couple minutes. It seems really strange that it sounds & plays great for a couple minutes. It's almost like some sort of midi buffer fills up. When I get it sorted I'll definitely post here! I'm really looking forward to extended sessions with The Trumpet!
  • TJL,

Perry just reported to us that the problem was essentially identical with vers. 1.02 and 2.01, standalone and with Sonar 5PE, in keyboard and breathcontroller mode. We need to know if anyone else got similar problems, under which conditions, and what's his/her setup. It would be also useful to gather additional information on Event Queues (under Engine), such as Note Events and Controller Events used. For example, whether these numbers remain stable or progressively increase.

Native Instruments support needs to be contacted and supplied with all the relevant information. They are actively working on this.

First, I want to thank everyone here for the helpful thoughts and advice. Mr. Tommasini especially went above & beyond with PM's and even a personal call!

The Trumpet is now working nicely with my system. :D My PC is a few years old (3ghz 2 gigs ram single core). My version of Sonar (5PE) combined with Kontakt 3 simply drew too many CPU cycles with the settings I was using for the heavy scripting of The Trumpet. The "fix" I ended up using included installing the latest DXi version of the Kontakt Player and increasing my latency from 6 to 16ms. Ultimately I will get a more capable PC but for now I am getting great results with The Trumpet. Mr. Sax T and The Trumpet are sweet! I'm off to play some more!

After I upgraded to ver 2.01A, my problem was solved.

I think it was related to the so called "CPU overload bug" in vers. 2.01.

Now I play The Trumpet hosted in Sonar 7 on my old Pentium IV 3.2HT and 2g ram for hours and I don't have any problem.

I should have re-posted here. Yes indeed, 2.01a was the resolution I was hoping for. Let me thank everyone involved once again! :D -Perry-
