CPU Overloads with The Trumpet

Hi



I recently installed the 2.01 update for The Trumpet. The quality of the instrument is fantastic, but whenever I play it, I get slight glitches in the audio. Having scratched my head for a while, I noticed that as soon as I hit a note, one of the CPU meters in Logic goes into the red, and it appears to be this which is causing the glitches. The other 7 CPU meters remain near the bottom.



I am using Logic 8 and have an Eight Core Intel Mac Pro(2xQuad Xeons at 3GHz) along with 12GB of Ram, so I don't think the spec' of the machine is the problem.



Unfortunately unil I figure out how to get the glitches to stop, I can't really record any parts, so I wondered if

anyobody had any ideas. I have tried increasing the playback buffer/preload size in Kontakt, but this makes no difference. No other Kontakt Instruments seem to cause this problem, so I'm guessing it's perhaps something in the scripting.

    Hi Trailerman,



    it´s really strange, since we know testers and customers using these (huge) machines without any problems. We are only aware about relatively high load of Logic if you still keep the track activated (ready to record). We´ve been explained that it has something to do with the so-called "live mode". Also - is the multiprocessor support activated?

    Anyway, this is a perrfect qauestion for the support. As you probably know The Trumpet is supported by Native Instruments themselves. Sorry I cannot say more (we are using PCs and Cubase), but they are the experts - and it´s their Player... :-) So please do not hasitate to call or write them. They have a huge knowledge base and will certainly know the reason - particualrly since it must be mainly a Logic issue.



    But - does it mean that you were already using the version 1.01 before, and didn´t experience any problems like that?

    Many thanks for your reply.



    I will contact NI and see if they can shed any more light on what might be happening.



    With version 1.01 I did not see these issues, that's correct. However, I have only used it on one or two projects, so I can't speak with great authority. I am currently trying to experiment with different configurations to resolve the problem, different multi-processor settings in Kontakt and the host, using a separate host with Rewire etc. Hopefully I will find a workaround for now at least.



    Thanks again for your help, and congratulations on delivering such an awesome product. Believe it or not, I still sometimes use your string library Peter, which I bought about 10 years ago!

    NI tried to reproduce the issue (I sent them my Logic song) but were unable to. As a result they apparently can't help me.



    It looks like I'm going to have to write my trumpet parts in sections and bounce each section down once I've written it. Not really how I want to work, but it looks like I have no choice.



    I can't help feeling there is something in the scripting which is most likely causing the problem. I can run loads of other Kontakt instruments at the same time, including all the Chris Hein stuff, which is also heavily scripted, and I have no problems at all. The Trumpet just sends the CPU shooting into the red. As soon as I mute the Trumpet, the CPU meter for the overloading CPU imediately drops back to almost nothing. It seems to start happneing once I've been working for a while, so I may have to just live with it, and when I come to bounce, just do a reboot and start a fresh.

    Hi,I'm also having a problem .I installed the trumpet earlier today and plays fine on the midi file trumpet samples I found on the forum,but when I used it with a cubase sx project it kept on stuttering and sounded awful .i have been using sfz soundfont player and soundfonts with no problem.

    My system is pentium 4, 2.6 windows xp with 2gb ram and my sound card is maudio -audiophile 2496.

    Any advice/help would be appeciated.

    Last night ,I tried a different asio driver other than the maudio one and improved the sound immensly so I was thinking probably I'm in need for a sound card upgrade.The audiophile is a basic soundcard I have'nt had any problems with i before and have have it for about 5 years and has served me well.

    What sound card are you guys using and what would you recommend?

    Hi Steveo,



    yes, the driver is extremely important for the right performance of the audio hardware. And - yes, the audio hardware itself is essential as well. 5 years is an enormously long time in the computer history... It might be sufficiant for many less demanding plugins. The Trumpet is, however, a complex application and its quality needs an up-to-date computer and audio hardware. I personally use the RME Firefice 800, but you can also succesfully apply probably any modern low latency audio card. Also here I strongly suggest to contact Native Instruments or their Support page / FAQs for further details. They have the best overview of what works the best with their Player/sampler.

    1. What does the RAM activity display show while you are working? Could it be that it increases gradually more and more?

    2. Which latency setting do you use in LOGIC?

    3. Could you please send us the ticket number you´ve received from Native Instrument, so that we can refer to that?
