88.1 or 96 k sampling rate ?

edited March 2015 in Windcontrollers
If a laptop can handle it, would there be a benefit to using higher sampling rates ? I'm mainly asking because of the benefit of lower latency at higher sampling rates. I do realize that plugins should have higher precision at higher sampling rates... Any of you guys gigging live the samplemodeling instruments ? What's your recommendation ? I have a MacBook 2008 version with a core 2 duo 2.4 processor, and 4 gigs of ram , and have the trumpet, and will soon buy the sax brothers... What sample rate and buffer size is working for you guys ? Thanks for any tips ! Luke

I believe that prior to the SWAM player, with the Kontakt player, the advice from samplemodeling was to use 88.x rather than 44.x, but with SWAM 44.x works just fine.

Someone else may know better, but I think, at this point with more up to date versions of the Kontakt player and corresponding samplemodeling Brass, the lower sampling rate works fine.

Of course you might want to experiment by recording stuff at both sampling rates and then playing it back to a number of people in a randomized sequence AB and see if they can even tell the difference by asking which one they prefer.
