Should I dump my Studio One DAW and which would be better?
I am really going nuts. I have all the instruments, both Kontakt and SWAM, and they are all installed in my DAW Studio One Professional. They work fine, except sometimes they disappear and I have to reinstall them. But I am struggling with the CCs. I got a Korg Nano Kontrol 2, and the tech support people couldn't get it working with my SampleModeling instruments. They thought the problem was with the DAW, and they told me it wouldn't work. I actually got it working with the expression and vibrato, but then it stops working. Now I am getting clipping messages when exporting WAV files of the instruments, even though they aren't clipping.
Has anyone else had these problems with Studio One? If so, have you resolved them? Are there better DAWS for these instruments? I'm not giving up on the Sample Modeling instruments. I'd rather switch out the DAW if I have to. Please help.
I have a Windows 7 very good computer.
Thanks,
Beth

Is that why you're writing in blue ?
I'm not giving up on the Sample Modeling instruments.
And you shouldn't! I'm sure they have nothing to do about it.
As for me, I use cubase and have not problems with samplemodeling products whatsoever. I can't tell for other DAWs for sure, but from what i've seen on the forums, most of them are completely fine with sample modeling products, so it's either your DAW or your computer.
What you could do is try reaper, since the demo, full featured, not time limited version is free, and see if it reacts the same in reaper. If so, the problem comes from your computer, not the DAW.
Good idea about Reaper.
Glad to hear about Cubabase. I've been thinking about trying it but they have a new version now, and that makes me nervous. Have you used the notation software. I understand it's integrated, and that's really important to me. I used to have that in Sonar. I would just open the composition in notation software and then I could get a better idea of what I was doing, even if it wasn't ready for publication.
Thanks!
Beth
Thanks for writing.

I was pointed to same in this forum.
After a short period of trying and finding that it is (1) a great and feature-rich DAW, (2) a great live VST player, (3) in depth programmable with a full featured API, EEL scripts, and Python and (4) supported by a very friendly and active community in their forums, I bought it for just $ 60.
It was in fact a lot of work, but with some free extensions, decent configuring and some scripting I am close to use it as a really full featured VST player (I'm going to provide my scripts and a configuration list in the forum over there).

Thanks so very much,

If it helps, I have had the Swam instruments working in Sonar 8.5, Sonar X3, Reaper and Ableton Live 8 - all have pretty much worked flawlessly from the start. I just inserted them as a plugin and they responded to any input from me on my EWI4000s wind controller.
The fact that you have to reinstall your instruments sounds ominous. Do you mean completely reinstall the software onto your computer or just reinstall the plugin for SWAM/ KoNTAKT onto your track? If the former, then that is very unusual behaviour. If the latter then I would suggest uninstalling then reinstalling the software again to see if that helps.
If MSchnell links to his templates for Reaper then I would definitely give that option a go. I have a Dual Core 2.0 windows 7 (64bit) dinosaur laptop that runs SWAM Soprano, ALto, Tenor and Baritone saxes at the same time, glitch free with no noticeable latency.
An alternative to help you troubleshoot is to use this VST hst:
http://www.hermannseib.com/english/savihost.htm
It hosts one VST at a time, but if you can run one of your plugins without problems in it then you know that the plugin install itself is okay. If you get the same symptoms as before, then you may want to reinstall your DAW software as well.
MSchnell - I would be interested in your templates (as a Reaper user).
I appreciate you writing to me. I feel drawn to try to make this work (since others have no problems) before starting with a new program.
thanks.
Reaper is not intended for live use. It is A DAW (like Cubase and many others), and here I think it offers excellent value, especially regarding the low price.
For me (as a live musician and a programmer) Reaper is the DAW of choice as it can additionally be used for live performance and can be enhanced by user programming.

I mainly am a keyboarder, but I do have a "WX7" Wind controller and the SWAM Flutes.
So my primary interest with Reaper is controlling my VSTs via the Masterkeyboard. In fact switch them and their sounds by the program change buttons.
Here I found that Reaper lacks that functionality out of the box, but it can be added by using some free tools, rather complex configuration and maybe some JSFX programming.
The main tools to use is "Live Config" included in the "SWS" reaper plugin. I am still on my way with all this. Once I am done, I will update the really outdated "Live Config" user manual, and this version will include the ways to configure such a setup.
In the end my setup will include two Masterkeyboards, the WX7 and a "Blow and Bite" Controller connected to the PC running Reaper and the VSTs within same.

As Reaper can be downloaded and will work as an un-restricted trial free of charge, you can easily verify if your problems still are present when using Reaper.
Have fun !

Right now it seems I'm having a new glitch with the controller. It doesn't seem to be being recognized by the computer. Unfortunately I have to work before I can get back to this.
