The old Trobone3 problem of missing .nicnt file strikes back

edited March 2014 in General Questions
Dear team,

Right after the installation of the latest NI update to Kontakt version 5.3.1.37, my Trombone 3.0 library (which used to work perfectly before) now complains about library content not found. The file that is claimed to be missing under the Trombone 3.0 directory is "The Trombone 3.0.nicnt"

Any quick fixes before the arrival of the 3.0.2 update?

Before you ask: Yes I had installed the Trombone 3.0.1 update, long before this happened.

Thanks already!

  • Ondomaler,

if you are sure that you have updated to the latest Trombone 3 version (via the Service Center) and now have 3.01, does it still make problems in the standalone mode? Because if you use a VST plugin in a host application, it is also necessary to remove the Kontakt Player from the session, load it again, and load the new Trombone 3. Otherwise the host is probably playing the old library. If this is still a problem, we are very sorry, but only Native Instruments can solve it. This issue is related to their Service Center, so please contact their support.

If you experience any further difficulties, please contact us using our Contact page.

    Thank you.

    Peter

    Dear Peter,

I'm having the same problem both in the standalone and the plugin version, even after removing the existing library 3.0.1 (as updated from the Service Center long ago) from Kontakt and re-load in both.

As you suggest, this is most likely a problem to be addressed by NI, because (as I also mentioned before) everything worked perfectly before I installed their last update yesterday. Everything, as in the standalone and the plugin instances of Trombone 3.0.1...

BTW, note that I have the full Kontakt 5, not the player. The update I'm talking about is the one to Kontakt 5.3.1.37.

Also note that, unlike some others, I never had this problem with Trombone 3, even at the early days. I keep all my software up-to date most of the time.

Sorry for introducing the issue here instead of approaching support. I'm not a professional musician in need of an urgent solution. This was an effort to inform you guys of a very recent problem which you might hear also from others in the near future.

    What else can I say?

    Best regards,

    Önder

Yes, I can confirm that by installing the latest update to Kontakt 5_531U, the missing nicnt file issue reappeared.

We are in touch with Native Instruments, asking to fix the problem as soon as possible.

In the meanwhile, I could get read of this issue by rolling back to the previous version of Kontakt. What I did is the following (on a PC):

Locate the executable by navigating to: C:\Program Files\Native Instruments\Kontakt 5 and selecting it.

Right-clicking, in the drop down menu, I selected: restore previous version, and chose the latest one, namely 5.3.0.6464.

This automatically performed the rollback. The Trombone 3 was again visible.

    Hope this helps.

    Giorgio
