Help with the keyswitches

edited February 2014 in Windcontrollers
I am new to the wind controller and also to Sample Modeling.

I have had the trumpet and the sax for almost a year now but have never use it.

I recognize how good they are and I am planning to start using them now.

My question is, since I like the Performance Keyswitches so much for what they can help us do on stage, I wanted to know, which one should be better? A MIDI foot controller (like the Yamaha MFC10) or a MIDI foot pedal (like the Roland PK-6 Dynamic MIDI Foot Pedal)?

Please advice.

Thank you

You might want to look at the Behringer FCB1010. A bit tricky to set up, but much cheaper, and with two pedals. If you're new to this, it might be a good way to have a functional setup without spending too much money before knowing what you really like.

Nevertheless, i would say that footcontroller are better for this task, since your foot is more steady. It also keeps its position if you let it go, which is, for most parameters (except for pitch bend), the way you want it to work.

Can you recommend a pedal controller that is better than the FCB1010? I hear very good things about the FCB1010... how does it compare to Roland FC-300 to use with ewi?

Not sure what you are asking. Typically, things like the FCB1010 and FC-300 are considered "foot switch" or "foot controller", and things like the Roland PK-6 are called "pedal controllers", because they have a bank of pedals. The FCB1010 does give you two pedals built in, so that's a good choice if you want some switches and pedals. Cheap too.

Another option to consider is the Keith McMillan SoftStep foot controller. Even though it does not have any "pedals", the switches are pressure sensitive, so can be used to control things like pitch bend, if needed. It is also a LOT more portable than the FCB1010. I have both the FCB1010 and the SoftStep, and I find myself using the latter more.
