Possible to produce just airflow noise?

edited August 2013 in General Questions
Hi!

Is it possible to set SWAM or the Kontakt instruments so that the lowest CC-values would only result breath noise? I find it the most difficult thing with these virtual instruments that when you blow a very quiet note and would like the air to sound after the note has already died, it doesn't happen but the sound just dies suddenly.

Is it possible to a) get only airflow noise and b) map it to say CC-velocities 0-5 or so?

If not, this is my feature request. This would add the expression really much. Imagine blowing through a clarinet and getting this sound of air flowing through an instrument, after a note has barely been heard. It's very important.

I love this idea, although it is hard on wind controller to play very low velocities. I also think that breath could be more dynamic based on expression. I lower breath noise quite a lot since it sounds more like noise to me than real breath noise. These little nuances can make instrument sound more realistic.

Yes, to me breath in the instrumentsound is really important as well.

If it was possible to hear just airflow, you could probably set it to 0-1, 0-15 as well so it wouldn't be so hard to play. Of course this would be away from the overall dynamics of the instrument, but it would be possible anyway.

I think for most realistic result, they would need to actually sample the whispering for each key and find a way to mix it with the sound of the key, so you can transition smoothly from whispering to sound and vice versa. Especially when I play ballads, I miss the ability to fade out to airy breath, like in the real instrument, so that could be amazing.

For those of us using a keyboard & breath controller, it could possibly be implemented like the "growl" feature and then be routed to after touch. You could probably get away with just a few stretched samples but I agree, it would be best to sample "pitched" air, blown through the instrument. That really would add a convincing touch of realism!
