keystation issue

edited June 2013 in General Questions
i purchasd an maudio keystation 88es to try and use the sax brothers... it has an expression pedal input and a sustain pedal input... I've plugged everything in and have tried mapping the expression value to c7, c11, c2 and stil haven't gotten the vst to send the audio when pressing on the keyboard... is there something I'm missing here or should I try purchasing another midi controller all together...

Make sure you are using WindController preset, since the keyboard one will not respond. Also some DAW (e.g. Reaper) require you to enable change control (CC) for the midi device input, without it you will get simple midi but not CC.

does it matter if my controller doesn't have sliders, knobs and things of the sort... I've tried the WindController setup and still can't get it to fly

Pages 8-9 of the keystation manual explain how to assign specific CC to expression sliders (manual is here http://www.m-audio.com/images/global/manuals/050505-KSSeries_UG_EN01.pdf). If you use regular keyboad preset of sax brothers and have CC enabled in Midi In, you should be good to go (default setting of Sax brothers in Kontakt is to use keyboard + expression slider/pedal)

I have The Saxophones VST not the Sax Brothers one. The Sax Brothers uses Kontakt and this one the SWAM Engine from what I've seen. However, I did manage to get the audio to come through last night. Although it's not as fluid as I'd like the process and sound to be, it did play when I did some form of mapping. I'll check out the manual link you provided to see if I can make it run smoother. Your help is highly appreciated. Thanks

You will need to refer to the SWAM saxophones manual instead for instruction about mapping CC. If you map one keystation slider to expression and the other slider to growl or vibraro, you will probobly have nice control.

    The manual is here:

I use SWAM saxes with WX5 wind controller, so I haven't played with these settings for keyboards much.
