The best setup with EWI USB

edited April 2013 in Windcontrollers
Hi,

The question is in the subject. I hope it's not a secret for you folks, but after trying most setup with the CC and the EWI USB parameters, i'm a little bit lost.

I give you here my personnal EWI setup. Can anyone tell me if it's something wrong set ?

Page 1

Breath gain : 29

Bite gain : 27

Bite AC gain : 28

P Bend Gain : 40

Key delay : 5

Page 3

breath CC1 : 2 B controller (coarse)

Breath CC2 : 11 Expression

Bite CC1 : 125 Pbend down

Bite CC2 : off

Velocity : dynamic

Pbend up control : 22

Pbend down control : Pitchbend down

The page corresponding to the EWI setup in aria player

I ask this, because the answering for example with Ms sax is much more realistic than Mr sax T. There are more other differences and its probably just something bad with my setup, something that i put bad in.

I'm thinking about buying the trumpet, and i would like to know if it necessary to change the setup to have an optimal playability.

thanks in advance guys 8-)

I am not seeing anything wrong with your settings at all. You could try turning of Breath CC2 (just leave it to Breath Control Coarse, and no secondary control). See if that helps.

It would be really nice to have some expert advices on ewi setup.

For example, what is the best way to do a vibrato using the bite. I've seen some people setting the bite on "pitch bend down", others to "pitch bend up-down", and i'm must admit i'm a bit lost (since i'm not a windplayer, i cannot rely on my ability to do a good vibrato, so it's a bit hard to know when to change the setup, and when to get to work ^^)

    Thx.

The default settings are given in a pdf user manual on the Akai support page.

    Page 1

    Breath gain : 64

    Bite gain : 64

    Bite AC gain : 64

    P Bend Gain : 64

    Key delay : 7

    Page 3

    breath CC1 : 2 Breath Control (coarse)

Breath CC2 : Aftertouch (very last)

Bite CC1 : 125 Pitchbend up and down (almost last)

    Bite CC2 : off

    Velocity : dynamic

Pbend up control : Pitchbend Up (very last)

Pbend down control : Pitchbend Down (very last)

Try these settings first. Then if you want more vibrato control you might try increasing Bite and Bite AC gain to 70 or 75.

Let us know if this works better.

PS Don't you just hate this frustrating interface?

There is so much extra space on these pages, yet you have to slowly scroll through 3 pages to get to the end.

Hello, thanks for your comment. I agree what you say concerning the secondary control set. I momentaly not use anymore the ewi USB to play the saxes, but go back to 4000S. I find it a little better.

I donc't really know the perfect way. I use the default setup for the bite (up/down), but actually, i heavy train to put vibrato aside when i'm phrasing jazz or modern musics. I find that vibrato give to the musical phrases an "oldie touch" that does not really fit to what i'm playing.

mostly, i breath with my ewi's like i played flute. I will be more attentive in the futur.

I find the default setup very hard with all instruments and are not able to play with.

what are you meaning with interface ? the computer Aria soft ?

I'm dreaming on an EWI that have all the functionnalyties from 4000S, but without the synthesys module. It seems that there will stand long as a dream...
