AKAI EWI USB does not work anymore in Cubase 7

edited March 2013 in Windcontrollers
Hi everybody,

I am using an AKAI EWI USB and different VST Instruments from samplemodeling. It used to work perfectly and I did not even have to think about it. I just plugged the EWI into an USB port, configured the ARIA software, started Cubase and I was ready to go.

Since one week or so I do not get any signal from the EWI into Cubase 7 nor Cubase 6. No signal from the ARIA VSt, no signal from samplemodeling SWAM, no signal from samplemodeling instruments in Kontakt.

The ARIA standalone player works. The midi input list in Cubase shows the EWI. Playing the instruments with a keyboard works. Probably I am missing something totally stupid, but I cannot figure it out. Can somebody help me?

Thanks in advance

Jochen

Wrong midi channel? Try using "omni" or "all channels" or whatever it's called in Cubase.

Do you use "all midi in" on your midi tracks ?

If so, don't :p it seems that cubase 7 is not able to handle multiple midi inputs on a single midi track... At least on my computer. Don't know if it's the same for everybody.

I ended merging all my midi data BEFORE sending them to cubase 7.

    Hi folks,

thanks for your attempts to help me. But...unfortunately situation has not changed. I checked the midi channels and chose only the EWI as midi input. No signal, no sound.

Maybe I am doing something wrong in the EWI configuration (inputs, outputs, whatever).

    BUT WHAT ???
  • Hi Jochen,

please provide us with a midi file, and we'll try to help.

    Best regards,

    Hi Giorgio,

there is no midi file, because I cannot get any signal into Cubase from the EWI. No sound, no controller data, nothing.

I did some screenshots of the Cubase project and the EWI configuration. Maybe you can see what I don't see.

Should I post these JPEGs here or send you a mail?

    Thank you.
  • mail, please.

    Something really weird happened.

I downloaded a demo of Reaper, installed it and added an instrument track with the SWAM Bari Sax. I played the EWI ...AND IT WORKED.

Before I was going to tell Steinberg some unfriendly words I opened up the same Cubase project that refused to receive signals from the EWI for a week...AND IT WORKED TOO.

Obviously the installation of Reaper also did something to Cubase, whatever it was.

Okay, I am switching off the computer now. We will see tomorrow if the problem is really solved.

Okay, the problem is solved. It was the "unavailability" of the MIDI port. If I uncheck the MIDI input everywhere except Cubase everything works well.

Thank you anyway for your help.
