I'm desperate for the Horn (LOL). I've just swapped most of my orchestral Brass over to SM, having finally figured out how to make the instruments sound less focused and tinny in an orchestral context, and would love to have the opportunuty to use the French Horn.
Is there any hint yet on a release date, or even how many horns are being worked on? In spite of my initial misgivings, I have managed to get a nice section sound out of the 3 trumpet patches, and would hope to do the same with the horns, but this is only possible with different instruments.
Tanks for any information that you're able to share at this stage.
can you share how you achieve that? I'm also trying to get those instruments into an orchestral context. My results are mixed.
I use an EQ to reduce the high frequencies a bit. I place the instruments in different positions, sometimes using MIR SE for that and I don't just copy the midi data to all the instrument tracks but work the controllers in a different way and try to delay some of the midi notes. But I haven't tried the 3 trumpet patches. Is there something else I've missed?
Do you use the instruments in 88,2 kHz and the convert them back to 44,1?

There are many ways of doing this, and it all depends on what sound you want. However for me the secret is that the sound needs multiple reverbs, and the dry sound should never be heard. I tend to fatten up the sound with a convolution reverb with short tail (to give a kind of close mike sound) and then use a couple of sends to give the impression of the other mikes you normally find in an orchestral set-up. Remember that with the initial convolution reverb, you can make the sound further away by reducing the early reflections.
There are no right and wrong ways to do this sort of stuff; it is all about what sounds best to you.
Yes, I'm curious about this, too. I think being able to have a complete brass section would be enough to make me finally jump into Sample Modeling instruments! (Which is to say that, yes, I would probably buy Trumpet, Trombone, Horn, and Tuba all in one go!)
Another user here very much looking forward to the horn and tuba.
I've already moved the trumpet and trombone sections of my orchestral template to 100% Sample Modeling. Fantastic results - clients are quite impressed with the realism, and the workflow is much faster for me with SM compared to sample-based libraries.
I'll be all SM for brass sections with the horn and tuba release. Kudos to all involved in developing these instruments!
Yes! I am also very unpatient regarding this release. I would so much like to have the most important brass instruments available as sample modeling. Are there any news regarding this? It would be so great to know ...
Now, that Miss Sax S and the SWAM engine is released, is there any news regarding Horns an Tuba? I think, I remember this would still be a Kontakt release. Are we close to this or is it still half a year or more away?

Which means the horn and tuba will be released....?
Seriously, do I buy one of the competitors to bide me some time or can I just wait two weeks until the horn is ready? Any clue would due most appreciated.
It won't be a question of one week or two, but neither of three to six months.
Wow! Great! I am really happy to hear that. Thank you for making it so clear!
Too late for my current gig where I need both horn and tuba. I'm making do with Garritan GPO 4 versions of these and also flute, clarinet and strings. They aren't too bad, and although probably not a direct competitor to SM, you get a lot of usable instruments for a low price, and they work well right out of the box with a wind controller. I'm also using the SM Trumpet and Mr. Sax T, all played with my WX5 in a large hall with the house sound system. The band is playing for about 30 song, dance, and comedy acts in the show. I get a lot of comments from people wondering where all those instruments are coming from.

BTW I only ever work at 44.1

Any progress report on the Horn and Tuba?
Looking forward!

We are working at the "unison ensemble horns" issue, just to keep you posted. 8-)

Thanks! And the solo strings? Are they on a similar time line?:)
