First note of phrase does not play

Intermittently, first note of phrase does not play.

I am using TEC Breath-bite controller to CC2.

I have not yet been able to reproduce intentionally. So seems random intermittent issue so far.

Any suggestions or theories?

    Same here.

    See thread http://www.samplemodeling.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6950

I feel that this is only with the latest version of SWAM. I don't remember having seen the problem with the version before. But I am not sure.

Lazy me did not do a Midi recording yet.

    Hi Michael,

no problem, we are also checking in the meanwhile.

The important thing is to confirm that the issue does not happen when the "Expr. Trigger Mode" parameter is set to "Off".

I was not able to see the problem when the "Expr. Trigger Mode" parameter is set to "Off".

    But:

The instrument is not playable with a Breath controller with "Expr. Trigger Mode" parameter is set to "Off", as now there always is a sound when you press a key, even with Expression = Zero.

With a BC you will use the breath pressure to modulate - and hence to start and to stop - the notes.

I will try to do a Reaper script that withholds note-on-events until expression rises to - say - 5 and deliver the note on afterwards. This might make "Expr. Trigger Mode" = "Off" playable. Maybe it also fights the problem even with Expr. Trigger Mode" set to "normal" or "fast".

I suppose a Wind controller will only send Note-On events when expression is at some decent level, so maybe I can emulate this.

I did the Reaper plugin to withhold the note-on events.

After half an hour of testing, that seems to work really decently with Expr. Trigger Mode" set to "normal" or "fast".

With Expr. Trigger Mode" set to "off" now there of course is no sound when playing keys and not blowing, but when stopping to blow and holding a key, the sound persists. Not perfect.

A downside: making funny noise with the flaps while not blowing does not work any more :( .

Of course this is just a workaround and I hope that the next SWAM version will take care of that issue.

I finally found out that it's not necessary to withhold the note-on events when expression is low, but it's enough to store the last note-on event coming in while expression is lower than 5 and re-send it when expression rises. (Of course you don't send a note-on, if a note-off for that note had been detected before.)

Now creating "flapping" noise without blowing is possible again.

    Maybe interesting technical details:

The additional note-on is sent without any delay directly after detecting expression > 5.

Seemingly the issue is healed by sending two identical note-on events without a note off in between. "Officially" this does not make much sense, but for SWAM it does and cures the problem, even though the flap-noise already is created with the first note-on.

The issue has been acknowledged as a bug affecting the latest release of all SWAM products:

    - The Saxophones, Clarinets, Double Reeds v2.5.3

    - The Flutes v1.2.3

    - The Viola v1.0.0

It happens when the instruments are configured for the Breath Controller, specifically when the "Expr. Trigger Mode" is active (Normal, Fast).

    Here details and workarounds:

The bug has been fixed and will be available in the next update. The update will be available soon.
