here I tried to emulate the sound of those smooth jazz tracks with solo instrument accompanied by strings/brushed rhythm section... caution-might induce sleep :D

i love that music - and it kept me awake until the last note :-)

Roberto - you must have been in 7th Heaven getting and playing this new horn software. As if your Fluegel Horn JABB renditions in the Garritan Listening room were not good enough already!

Do the math - skilled player (you) and great software (Trumpet) equals - perfection! Most, if not all will not know the difference.

sounds totally, totally awesome. You really have mastered this instrument.

What are you using to play it? expression pedal? breath controller? Any tricks you'd like to share?

Alex, thank you for listening. I'm using a BC3 hooked into an old DX7 I had in the basement... works pretty well! No special trick, but as I'm a flute player I find it more natural to play it this way, realtime. The trumpet responds very well just blowing and playing the keyboard, I hardly use keyswitches, just when special effects or note endings are required...

    best

great. I think my next investment will be a Breath Controller, and I'll try remapping vibrato control from the modwheel to CC # 11.

Thanks again for the inspiring music--

    :ugeek:

    I love this instrument!!!

    Hi Rob,

Great track, superb trumpet. Do you think this kind of trumpet would be good for some latin and maybe big band tracks? i.e. to get a really 'squealing' trumpet section going?

Previously, I've had to use samples like those in Greg Adams' Big Band Brass set to get a real punch to a track (which is obviously incredibly limiting!).

When you say VSL LE strings, which ones are you referring to exactly? The strings you've used have a really nice warmth to them - what kind of production tools are you using?

Sorry for so many questions, I'm just impressed by the quality of your track.

I'd say yes, absolutely. You may want to layer it on top of a couple of different sampled trumpets to get more diversity in the section, but this trumpet is so natural and dry that to me it's perfect as a lead trumpet. It also depends on your tweaking abilities, of course... I find that whenever I take the time to go and refine the track, taking care of articulations, dynamics etc it always pays back

    the downloadable standard SE strings...

    - what kind of production tools are you using?

Logic audio 5.5 on Powermac, Creamware audio card, Reaper on PC as slave/VST host - Motu 828mk2 audio card - controlled via yamaha BC3 and keyboard. UAD 1, a miriad of vst plugins, main sampler NI Kontakt2

no problem, Cato, sorry for the late reply, I'm rather busy at the moment... feel free to ask more questions, if you need to :)
  • very relaxin indeed Roberto!
